Walsingham was founded in 1954 as a private post-secondary institution offering home-study correspondence courses to students wishing to pursue a programme in Liberal Arts studies. A Faculty of Social Science Studies was inaugurated in 1975 and a Faculty of Administrative Studies in 1998.
True to our history, Walsingham continues to provide courses in a Distance Learning format We currently service international students from twenty-six countries around the world..
In August 1991, having fulfilled all prior participatory requirements, Walsingham was approved for full membership as a distance learning school by the International Council for Distance and Home Education (ICDHE).The ICDHE has since amalgamated with the European Committee for Online Accreditation - EUCOA.
Simply stated, our goal at Walsingham is relevance – challenging courses that extend each student’s marketable skills.
A secondary school certificate is required for admission to the Bachelor’s level but this requirement may be waived if the candidate is over 27 years old and has acquired his/her requisite skills informally. Applicants who wish to pursue their Master’s should have already completed their Bachelor’s with a grade point average of at least 2.6. Doctoral candidates must hold a Master’s level degree in their field, with second-class honours or better. Doctoral programmes utilize the Master of Research format and are wholly dissertation based.
In a significant departure from the policy of most universities, we grant recognition for previous university courses without regard to how many years have elapsed since their completion.
In addition, mature students are eligible for up to 60 Experience Credits at the undergraduate level and up to 15 credits at the graduate level. These Experience Credits must be documented and submitted as part of a portfolio review and they must be related to the candidate’s field of of study.
All our EUCOA accredited degree programmes are free of residency requirements. Walsingham’s international programmes provide extraordinary flexibility as they are not governed by the British Education Act..
We have all witnessed the advent of rapid technological growth. For these advances to be extended, a continuous supply of highly educated and adaptable personnel must be trained Walsingham has responded to this need by mediating between stringent academic standards on one hand and a pragmatic commitment to practical skills on the other.
